Thomas J. Lien is a senior mining with experience on new mine projects, existing operations, and for Board positions. Experience spans from initial geologic, environmental, marketing, and investment evaluation to review of all aspects of existing operations and general management.
Mr. Lien specializes in evaluating existing practices and then using innovative and creative thinking and methodology to develop and recommend changes, resulting in increased productivity, cost reduction/improved cost control, and improvements in quality of workmanship and product to make the operation more competitive.
Mr. Lien was employed by Foundation Coal (previously RAG American Coal, Cyprus Amax Coal, and AMAX Coal) where his positions included Senior Vice President – Western Operations; Manager, Preparation and Quality Control; Director of Engineering; General Mine Manager-Belle Ayr; Director, Surface Engineering and Environmental Engineering; Director, Surface Operations Development; General Manager, Vice President, and President of Wyoming operations; and President of various land divisions with responsibility for coal leases, land management, CBM development, real estate acquisition and disposal, and agricultural applications. Before that, he was Superintendent of Pelletizing, Superintendent of Beneficiation, and Process Engineer for Kaiser Steel Corporation; and Mine Quality Control Engineer, Mill Metallurgist, and Mine Geologist for Kennecott Copper’s Ray Mines Division.
